Our Methodology
A targeted, relationship-based approach to helping children build a future for themselves again.
The Reality on the Streets
In Mwanza, children aged 6 to 16 run away due to difficult family, economic, and psychosocial situations. The streets are not safe; they face starvation, lack of healthcare, and are forced into begging or crime to survive.
We have identified two distinct groups:
- Younger children: recently arrived, who are frightened and want help.
- Older youth: stuck in a chronic street routine who require a different approach.
How We Work
1. Street Work
Twice a week, we go directly to the streets to build reciprocal trust. We provide counseling, learn about each child's situation, and assess how we can help.
2. Family Reunification & Safe Housing
Our primary goal is family reunification and helping children return to school. When this is not possible, our center provides a safe home where they can live and study.
3. Vocational Training & Arts
For older youth, simply sending them to a center is not enough. We offer 6-month vocational training (mechanics, welding) and art workshops to teach them a trade and help them become independent.
4. Not the End of the Road
After training, youth can stay at the center to mentor new arrivals. We maintain continuous communication with them even after they leave to ensure their progress in life.
